What do WordPress migration services include?

WordPress migration services move a working WordPress site to a new host, or bring a site from another platform into WordPress, without rebuilding it. Groweik copies the files, database, themes, plugins and uploads, tests the copy on a temporary address, switches the domain at a time agreed with you, checks redirects and search settings afterwards and keeps a rollback plan ready. Every account is in your name.

A WordPress site that has outgrown its host, or that nobody maintains any more, can usually be moved without being rebuilt. We list what the site runs on, copy it to the new hosting, test the copy away from the live site and switch the domain at a time you agree. Redirects and search settings are checked afterwards, mail is kept working, and every account ends up in your name. The scope is written down before work begins.

What the migration covers

The aim is the same site on new hosting, with its design, plugins and settings intact and a written record of what was moved.

  • A full inventory first: the current site, hosting, database, email accounts, DNS records and integrations are listed in writing.
  • A backup of the files and the database, kept before anything changes.
  • Themes, plugins, uploads and the database copied to the new host, with the site addresses stored in the database updated for the new setting.
  • A page by page test on a temporary address, away from the live site.
  • The DNS switch at a time agreed with you, with the SSL certificate installed so HTTPS works across the domain.
  • Permalinks, redirects, the sitemap, robots rules and SEO plugin settings compared with the old site after the switch.
  • Email accounts moved or re-pointed when mail sits with the website, with the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records checked.
  • Monitoring after the switch, and a rollback plan to return to the old host if something fails.

How a WordPress migration is run

Every step ends with a check, and the switch waits until the copy has passed testing. The scope, including what happens to mailbox contents, is agreed in writing before work starts, and you approve the time of the switch.

  1. Audit and scope: we list what the site runs on, including hosting, plugins, email and integrations, and write down what is included.
  2. Copy and test: the site is set up on the new host from the backup and checked on a temporary address, including forms and any checkout.
  3. Switch: DNS is changed at the agreed time, SSL is confirmed and the old host stays untouched until the new one is proven.
  4. Verify and watch: redirects, titles, the sitemap and search settings are compared with the old site, and the site is monitored after launch.

Is this the right service for your site?

It suits:

  • Businesses whose WordPress site is slow, unreliable or awkward to host, and who want a better home for it.
  • Owners who bought a site from a developer or agency that no longer maintains it.
  • Companies moving from Wix, Squarespace or another platform into WordPress, where the content move is part of our WordPress development.
  • Teams that want the domain, hosting and analytics accounts in their own name, with documentation.

It is not the right fit if:

  • You need a new site designed or rebuilt, which is a WordPress website development project.
  • You only need a domain or fresh hosting set up, which the domain and hosting service covers.
  • Your store runs on Shopify, which includes its own hosting and is not moved between hosts.
  • You expect search results to stay exactly the same, because nobody can promise that after any migration.

Common WordPress migration cases

Most moves fall into one of three cases, and each is scoped on its own.

From one host to another

The site moves from shared hosting to a cloud server or a managed WordPress host, such as DigitalOcean Managed Hosting, Kinsta or WP Engine, which are the hosts we already set up for WordPress sites.

From another platform into WordPress

Content from Wix, Squarespace or another platform is brought into a WordPress build. This overlaps with our WordPress development, so the scope names which parts are migration and which are build.

Email on the same account

Mail often sits with the website host. We move or re-point the accounts so mail keeps arriving, and the scope for mailbox contents is agreed in writing first.

What a migration can and cannot promise

A careful plan lowers the risk, but some outcomes sit outside any provider control.

Downtime

The copy is built and tested away from the live site, so visitors keep seeing the old site until the switch. DNS changes take time to spread, so a switch with no interruption at all cannot be promised.

Search results

URLs, redirects, the sitemap and page titles are compared with the old site. Rankings can change for reasons unrelated to hosting, so no one can promise they stay identical.

Timing

The time depends on the size of the site, the plugins in use and the number of email accounts. The schedule is written into the scope, and no fixed number of days is promised here.
